first love

AH, SWEET MEMORIES
OF SHARON

Most unusual for me
Sweet memories, you see
A love so very sweet
In my heart and soul did meet
But never in this world of ours
A memory land, mine, not ours
I loved a lassie so very dear
But what does that mean
At a mere twelve years
More than fifty years have passed
I remember her still
Yes, and still so dear
I had worked with her father
Read to a class of her brother's
Yet we would never know
Each others touch
She now a sweet memory
A piper she was in those bygone days
I had proof, hanging at the head
Of my bed
Dressed in her regalia
A sweet rose was Sharon
Sweetest of sweet memories.

perspectives

ON SEEING MY WORLD

My sight was changing
My mind was changing
Wah, indeed, my whole world
Was changing rapidly
For I no longer saw
As I had seen before
I no longer felt
As I had felt before
I knew that a new depth
Had been added to me
When I met groups of people
When I saw a herd of deer
When I was immersed
In fields of flowers
I no longer saw ‘just’ the group
I no longer saw ‘just’ the herd of deer
‘Saw’ the green and smelled the aromas
Within the depths of the field
I saw each individual part
The little differences
That made ‘all’ the difference
The members of a group
And all the differences they represented
Listening not to noise any longer
But to a symphony of sound
Leaf, grass, and insect
With a tremendous choir
Of all manner of bird and the squirrel
Ah, what a wonderful orchestra
I realized that I now saw the pieces
That made up my ‘whole’ of the moment
I now knew that it was little differences
That made ‘the’ difference
In all that the world was
Yes, and indeed, what it ‘could’ be
It allowed subtle change
To grow from within the whole
If men the world around
Could only begin to see
How important we all are
To every other one of us
Oh, yes, and to the world we live in
The future of it all
That friends of all races
Could see the changes in me
See and sense that which I was becoming
Oh, so much more than I had been
Many
Caught up in their lives
Caught in the traps of the world
Could not understand
What was happening to me
For we follow many paths
But truth of who we are
Transcends all prejudice and false teaching
Some might be afraid
That what I ‘had’
Might be catching
‘As if it were a disease’
Perhaps they are content
In their walled up spaces
Safe, ‘at least for the moment’
Ah, well
I wish them all the very best in life
Their lives will all unfold
As it was meant to
I hope they have a chance to see
A little of what I have seen
The great giver of life
Does not abandon his children
Even when they are foolish
No more than help
When they only express spite.

IF YOU ONLY KNEW

My own kiddies feel hard done by
With all that dad did not know
What he did not share
But while they are moaning
Cursing their fate, me
But a sudden chuckle
If only they could know
What their lives might have been
If I had learned all the lessons
My mother stabbed me with
The silence from my father
Cursed with a kin
Who would not mix with me
Abused by one or more
Oh my little kiddies
If only you could know
The hell that was my youth
Then perhaps you might shout
[for joy]
At what you did not learn
Did not feel
You had someone who cared
I had someone who sent money
Which is better
[although you already know your answer].

in the beginning

my beginning

still me, so [haha]watch out

CRY??? WHY???

Every one of us has history
If alive, you have it too
It is not a rare thing
To have a lot of pain in yours
Nor in mine
A lot of pain from childhood
Rage from then until.......
My worktime is done
No, I won't sit in the sun
My grape is now a raisin
Vision not the eagle's
Strength not of bear or wolf
But still I sit, here I am
The product of all that went before
Is that good or bad................
Neither good nor bad at all
It simply is........as am I.

dedicated to Red Skelton

LIFES PASSAGES

In the moment you were there
The world changed

Just a little bit
In that second or two

But how much really
Because you were there

Each moment we live
We pass
Smile, talk to or listen
To people

What did they do for us
And we for them

We may never know, except
In that which faces us

A smile to a look
Of desperation

A kind word
To one who hates the world

An ear for one on whose shoulders
Rests that world

Yes

In the moment you were there
The world changed just a little bit

Thank you for
Being there for me

The moment changed
Just a little

The result
A brand new me.
