ON SEEING MY WORLD
My sight was changing
My mind was changing
Wah, indeed, my whole world
Was changing rapidly
For I no longer saw
As I had seen before
I no longer felt
As I had felt before
I knew that a new depth
Had been added to me
When I met groups of people
When I saw a herd of deer
When I was immersed
In fields of flowers
I no longer saw ‘just’ the group
I no longer saw ‘just’ the herd of deer
‘Saw’ the green and smelled the aromas
Within the depths of the field
I saw each individual part
The little differences
That made ‘all’ the difference
The members of a group
And all the differences they represented
Listening not to noise any longer
But to a symphony of sound
Leaf, grass, and insect
With a tremendous choir
Of all manner of bird and the squirrel
Ah, what a wonderful orchestra
I realized that I now saw the pieces
That made up my ‘whole’ of the moment
I now knew that it was little differences
That made ‘the’ difference
In all that the world was
Yes, and indeed, what it ‘could’ be
It allowed subtle change
To grow from within the whole
If men the world around
Could only begin to see
How important we all are
To every other one of us
Oh, yes, and to the world we live in
The future of it all
That friends of all races
Could see the changes in me
See and sense that which I was becoming
Oh, so much more than I had been
Many
Caught up in their lives
Caught in the traps of the world
Could not understand
What was happening to me
For we follow many paths
But truth of who we are
Transcends all prejudice and false teaching
Some might be afraid
That what I ‘had’
Might be catching
‘As if it were a disease’
Perhaps they are content
In their walled up spaces
Safe, ‘at least for the moment’
Ah, well
I wish them all the very best in life
Their lives will all unfold
As it was meant to
I hope they have a chance to see
A little of what I have seen
The great giver of life
Does not abandon his children
Even when they are foolish
No more than help
When they only express spite.
