Mankind! What are we? Who are we? What and who do we think we are? Where do we think we are going?
Mankind, a species that walks erect, has speech, who puts his success at being 'man' as having an opposing thumb and a brain but watch our for the ego, it kills.
If we truly had a brain, why are we so destructive? Why do we find it 'easy' to invent new and better ways to kill, animal and each other? We are the most destructive creature on the earth and unfortunately, the most prolific.
We are a creature that shouts out that there is a god, then turns around, and ignoring the tenets of his faith in God, he maims and kills others with ease. We have such an amazing gift for blarney.
No one knows, yet, if man can fool everyone, all the time. He can, however, fool himself. We are the demons that our religions tell us to beware.
The seven deadly sins!!! I'm sorry, but we have it wrong. In one way or another, we wear, almost all of the time, our 'seven'. We know that the ‘7’ are an evil thing, but that it is always ‘someone else’ who is the guilty party and heathen. Don't you see? Can't you feel that 'something' is wrong?
People starving to death around the world, and our response [although better than nothing], slip a donation dollar somewhere to 'help'. Help who? In reality, our conscience would demand better otherwise, but it can be lulled and lured to sleep by that dollar.
We prance around, preen ourselves, and talk about philosophy, from other men, of course, but then, if not them, who? The amazing essence about all men, everywhere, is the ego, the id. We talk about how man rose above the animals. Why is it that the peace we crave and the politics we have to achieve it, just doesn’t work. Why! When those who we give the power to achieve it, are liars and hypocrites, what do we expect. We accept the contrivances of government as a necessity towards peace. We see it and yet we keep them in power. It’s easier than doing something about it.
Why is it that we must we put down someone else who is different, in any way, from our/themselves. One group probably feels put-upon. Somewhere, someone is talking about them in the same vein.
The individual, whoever he or she may be, almost always thinks that everything will be ok once ‘they’ believe in what we believe and say. Our history teaches, subliminally perhaps, that once a segment of society quells opposing forces long enough to establish law and order, a uniform society, that they then turn to nitpicking. We cannot be happy with a success like that. An ego and an id are looking for new homes, and like the inquisition and McCarthyism, they will find it. After all, we are only human.
The environment suffers terribly from our ego and need for more. We talk the good talk, some people, more now than ever, work hard at being one with nature. It’s too bad that politicians, nations, and all people don’t work as hard. Instead, we keep coming up with delaying actions, with ways not to offend other nations, and money. Greed and resistance to change may kill us all in the end.
The world is always a tinderbox, this spot and that always waiting to pounce on weakness or perceived weakness. Politics pretty much means getting what you want, and all politicians are guilty. Lying, cheating, and bullying their way to the ‘do it my way’ syndrome.
The world is so close to the possibility of the end of life, All life, as is evidenced by the speed at which so many different species are disappearing . Are we blind?
There is a growing spread of mayhem and murder worldwide, starvation [ form of murder if we don’t stop it], and so much more, yet we keep going our merry way, as politicians work to keep the dollars flowing into those pockets that will never know want - lying, cheating, and bullying everyone, including you and I, but we can’t see it either, it would cause us to have to change. We may love change, but we hate doing it.
Oh, we want to help those in need, those starving, none of whom, at the moment, has the ability to help themselves, in many cases because of internal strife in all its ugly forms.
There are so many mass murders that most of us never hear about, mass graves that even now are still being discovered, as well as the new ones being created. Do these speak of man the divine, a creation of a supreme being, or to someone who is being duped as to the real situations going on right now around the world, duped or choosing to deny.
I am as guilty as anyone, and we all are in our own way. On the surface we do what we ‘may’ to help, but not so much that it interferes with our own lives, so we donate that dollar and watch the news of more death and disease with clear conscience, we helped. Did we truly help the people suffering?
The media feeds us sensationalism, not news, and as a result we are becoming desensitized to the problems that face more than seventy percent of the people of the world.
There is a narrow-minded outlook that abounds in the west that others only need to ‘pull up their bootstraps’ and get out there and work, as if that would be the solution to and for people with nothing to work with.
In most cases ‘have not’ societies work much harder at
‘just staying alive’ than we do even in search of our almighty dollar. Yes, that may be green, but it wouldn’t be recommended eating.
Was anyone ever really aware before or even now, that war is an exercise in culling the population. Remove much of a generation of young men and we slow down the population explosion. It can be seen in cases of genocide as well.
Much of the west is now incapable of supporting themselves by their own food production. It might have been once, but as in the case of Canada, land speculation and laziness of city construction and expansion are sealing our fate in that area. Gobbling up large tracts of ‘very’ fertile land, burying it beneath concrete, steel, and pavement, instead of the more difficult construction in areas that can’t be used for food is so much cheaper and easier.
Why? That’s easy, the land is already pretty much flat and well cared for, as well as easy to work with. This means that one needs just move in and start building. Now that is much cheaper than building in difficult areas because everything would be more difficult, their having to dig, drill, and bore out building locations.
We all are criminally responsible for the loss of land for food production, and for our wasting that precious commodity, water. A good many people in this world would think they were in ‘heaven’ if they had the water sources that we in North America have.
No, I don’t have any real solutions, except to open our eyes to what is happening all around us. To solve a problem, one must first recognize that he has a problem. Man has the capability of being everything he sees himself as now. It’s too bad he keeps coming up wanting in his actions.
Everything that is happening on our planet today should be enough warning for us to realize that we MUST change our attitudes about almost everything.
It may sound silly, but it is laid out for us in the movies. Startrek! The second generation. NO money, cultural growth, caring for each other, feeding and clothing everyone without free enterprise, simply because that is what is needed, a simple concept and yet one that should give us a clue as to the type of changes needed in this world. There has to be a ‘will’ to change. That is the only way that we can survive.
To those lost in their worlds of high finance, take heed, your money will not save you, only, perhaps, delay the inevitable. If this sounds like doom and gloom, it ‘is’ doom and gloom unless we change.
I wish I had all the answers but I don’t. I do have a world of questions to throw into the discussion. If we don’t question things and alter our way of life, there just may not be any life.
This is not an area of speculation anymore. The signs are all around us. The planet is begging us to change direction and live. We are no longer speaking about a time somewhere off in the distance, it is sitting there and waiting as close as ‘tomorrow’.
